Whether you’re getting into client SEO and are looking to get your first client or you’ve been in the game for a while, you may be looking for those $1k+/month clients. The whales. Well this post is going to help you get there! Without further ado, let’s get into these 3 essential tips.
Be The Expert
There’s a popular saying in sales which is “Value Beats Price” now what does that mean? Well it means that you need to build the value up for the client to a point where what you are charging doesn’t matter. You’ve made yourself so essential to the client, that they would be willing to pay nearly anything within reason to have you work with them. So how do you do this? Pretty simple, give them the information on how to rank their site up front. Once they have the step by step plan on how to rank their site, they’ll realize just how out of depth they really are and will hire you, since you’re the one who gave them this information. On top of that they won’t have the time to do it all themselves. Additionally they’ll be confident that you can deliver, because you just walked them through exactly how to do it themselves.
Stop Selling SEO
I can’t stress this enough. Do NOT just sell SEO. SEO is a way to generate leads for a business, you want to be the go to “Marketing Guy” for that business owner. Whenever they have a PPC, social media or any form of online marketing question, they should come to you. If you don’t want to fulfill those things for them, then outsource the work and keep some money for yourself. This way you’re no longer a commodity to them, but an invaluable resource. They will value your services exponentially more. This will turn the frame from the client demanding things from you, to a more respectable relationship.
Value Your Time
If you don’t value your time, nobody else will either. And more importantly, there’s no way you’ll be able to scale your agency, or any business for that matter, if you don’t do this. Prioritize things that need your attention, and outsource/automate things that you can. If you’re starting you may have to do most if not everything on your own, but for example when you get your first client you can outsource the PBN setups/links or content. I wonder where you can do that… Lol but seriously, you will cap at about 5 clients if you’re doing all the work yourself, and you’d be getting no sleep. I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t start internet marketing to be working all day and night. So again you must outsource some menial tasks, and also let clients know that you are a busy guy. I let my clients know that they can have one free 30 minute call with me each month to go over anything they’d like, and unlimited communication through email. And if they ask why, I simply explain that if I spent all my time talking to clients on the phone, I’d never be able to fulfill the actual work for them. This usually gets the message across, and if they’re still pushing that’s a red flag that they may be a hassle to work with.
Pick a high paying niche in a decently populated area. You don’t want to work with a psychic in Cambridge, Delaware. You want to work with lawyers, doctors, dentists, roofers, CPA’s and the like. These people are usually already making good money, willing to pay more, and more understanding of the effort involved in driving leads to them. You can also google “top 200 cities in the US” or whatever your country may be and pair the two together to find your ideal leads. Such as “Los Angeles Lawyer” for example.
